Facelift surgery is designed to address loose and excess skin in the neck and jawline. Stubborn fat deposits underneath the chin and jowls can also be eliminated through a facelift. When skin in the lower and mid-face is lifted during the procedure, some deep wrinkles may be eliminated as a result, but facelift surgery will not remove wrinkles around the eyes or throughout the forehead.
Wrinkle reduction can be accomplished in conjunction with facelift surgery by adding facial fillers such as JUVÉDERM® and Radiesse®. These work by adding volume to areas of the face that have lost collagen and hyaluronic acid. Surgical procedures including brow lift and blepharoplasty can also be combined with facelift surgery to address facial wrinkles and produce a smooth and rejuvenated appearance.
Will a facelift remove wrinkles? Not entirely. But during your initial consultation at our Andover, MA or Nashua, NH office, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. George Chatson can discuss options that will. Working with you individually and tailoring options to address your specific concerns, Dr. Chatson can help you choose those procedures that will best produce the look of your dreams.
How Long Will a Facelift Last?
Your facelift may continue to produce results for 10 or more years, but nothing can stop the aging process. However, there are steps you can take to help extend your facelift results. These include:
- Following pre and postoperative instructions to reduce risks and speed recovery
- Using a quality moisturizer and following a consistent skin-care routine
- Wearing full spectrum sunscreen whenever outdoors
- Refraining from any type of tobacco use
- Reducing alcohol intake
- Reducing processed food intake
- Getting adequate sleep
Taking care of yourself through diet and exercise and making sure you keep your skin moistened, clean, and protected from the elements will help extend your facelift results. Touch-ups with facial fillers or BOTOX® Cosmetic can help as well. Dr. Chatson will discuss how long your facelift result may last and steps you can take to extend your results in greater detail during your time in our care.
Will My Facelift Look Natural?
Facial plastic surgery is equal parts art and science. Your results will depend on a variety of factors, but one of the most influential will be your choice of surgeon.
Did you know that anyone with a medical degree can call himself a “cosmetic surgeon”? Only someone who has completed an additional residency in plastic surgery, additional schooling and training in plastic surgery, and met the demanding requirements of the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) can call himself a plastic surgeon.
Dr. George Chatson has met these requirements, along with requirements for continued certification through the ABPS, making him highly qualified to perform this delicate procedure. Every step will be taken to ensure results that are equal parts youthful and dignified, enabling you to “look your age” without looking like your age has worn you down.
What you can realistically expect from facelift surgery will be covered in greater detail when Dr. Chatson has met you. It is difficult to predict outcomes without first meeting you for a private, no-pressure consultation at one of our conveniently located New England offices.
