In recent weeks, several news agencies have picked up a story about BOTOX® Cosmetic being used for nonsurgical breast lift. Surgeons who perform this treatment claim that BOTOX® Cosmetic can relax chest muscles, allowing breast tissue to naturally perk up. However, many plastic surgeons worry that not only is this treatment incapable of producing reliable results, it may be dangerous. If the injections were to migrate into the lungs they could cause breathing problems and may even interfere with proper rotation of the arms.
Breast lift surgery addresses sagging breast tissue, not underlying muscle structure. To properly address sagging, tissue itself must be lifted and, in some cases, excess skin removed – neither of which can be accomplished with injections. While nonsurgical solutions may sound appealing, they simply cannot provide the results we believe our patients deserve. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. George Chatson can discuss this with you in greater detail during your breast surgery consultation.
In addition to lift with injections, some cosmetic surgeons are now offering breast augmentation with injectable saline. As with lift, the results from this treatment are unreliable at best, and long-term safety issues have yet to be seen.
